Joseph’s Coat of Many Colors

I had always wanted to do a Joseph’s Coat of Many Colors but never had a request for one. When I learned my grandnephew Ben was in need of a tallit for his bar mitzvah, I jumped on the chance. Since he didn’t have any specific preference, I suggested the “coat” and he went for it. His only demand was, “No pink or purple!”  So I chose black to outline the colors–red, orange, blue, green, and yellow–against a white background and I used what’s called a satin stitch to avoid half-tones and give the colors deep saturation. I missed the bar mitzvah in California but heard it was a great success.
